Jhack Tepora off Pacquiao vs Broner PPV, Ruiz vs Guevara now PPV opener
It is tough news for Jhack Tepora who unprofessionally was beaten by the scales today, missing weight by 5 1/2 lbs. It was so bad in fact that he will no longer be fighting on the pay-per-view card, tomorrow.
Tepora, who weighed in at 131 1/2 pounds for a 126-pound featherweight title fight today will now be replaced by Alberto Guevara (27-3, 12 KOs), who there on stand by in case Tepora missed weight.
The bout between Guevara and Hugo Ruiz will no longer have any title implication and now just be a ten-round fight to start the pay-per-view.
Tepora held the interim WBA featherweight title, which he was stripped of today after missing weight.
Both Ruiz and Guevara made weight today making the bout official to open the Showtime Pay-Per-View broadcast Saturday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT ($74.99 in HD).
Guevara has won three straight fights since losing a unanimous decision to IBF bantamweight champ Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KOs) in 2016, but has faced limited opposition in the win streak. Guevara’s other two losses are to Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-2-2, 19 KOs) in November 2013 and Leo Santa Cruz (35-1-1, 19 KOs) in an IBF bantamweight championship match in December 2012. Simply put, Guevara has never made the leap to champion at the world-class level.
