Paul Mendez returns March 9th, faces Yamaguchi Falcao
Paul Mendez, who currently trains out of The Rock Boxing Gym in Salinas, Ca, now has one of the biggest bouts of his career as he faces Yamaguchi Falcao, an undefeated Golden Boy Promotions prospect who won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games, taking place March 9th at The Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York.
Mendez, a veteran, who had his best success on Don Chargin and Paco Damian cards in the early 2010s will look to see some career resurgence as he faces Falcao. Mendez picked up a third-round technical knockout in Mexico in January, but prior to that his last bout was against Ievgen Khytrov in July 2016, meaning he had nearly a three-year layoff prior.
Falcao, who as stated before is an Olympic medalist, who hasn’t fought since last January has been void of a notable win on his resume in the professional game as his best win was an unbeaten Morgan Fitch, who later would be known for his time on The Contender.
The bout will take place on DAZN as part of the Dmitry Bivol versus Joe Smith Jr., which will be for WBA light heavyweight world title.
A notable undercard fight features heavyweight Sergey Kuzmin, a close friend of Dmitry Bivol, facing decorated American amateur Joey Dawejko
