CANELO is the best in boxing right now

Whether people like it or not, the hype is matching the talent in 2019 with Golden Boy Promotions superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

The 28-year-old seasoned veteran, who has clocked in 391 rounds across 54 professional fights, should rightful now be viewed as the best in the sport of boxing because he has faced the best available competition and besides a loss to Floyd Mayweather, has beaten all – while still being a massive draw. A feat few can match.

So what makes Canelo so good? It is a combination of terrific head movement and an ability to roll shots including a cheeky move of turning his head away from a punch to lessen the blow, that makes him hard to hit clean, and on top of that, he has a solid enough chin that even landing on him might not phase him. Combine his power-punching ability especially dynamic body shots and solid footwork makes him a paradox very few can solve with his only glaring weakness being average footspeed.

Mayweather was able to beat Alvarez based off having fast feet and longer arms than Canelo, essentially beating Canelo to spots in the ring, touch him and moving him, forcing the Mexican fighter to reset. The only fighter who offers that type of skillset is Demetrius Andrade, a fighter who holds a middleweight world title, and is probably Alvarez’s toughest challenge to date. That being said, his only loss comes to a master boxer, who was one of the ten best to do it ever.

Canelo is constantly improving despite a controversial draw with Gennady Golovkin, but seemingly won the court of public opinion in the second bout with Golovkin in which Golovkin was on his back foot most of the fight [despite the fact that favored Golovkin’s work rate and jab]. The result of the second bout between Canelo and Golovkin seemingly broke apart Golovkin’s team as well.

Canelo is lining up a hall-of-fame career and is becoming this decades most marquee boxing star taking the Cinco de Mayo fight date back from Floyd Mayweather, who held it for the first part of the decade.

With wins over Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, amongst others, it is hard to argue that Canelo is currently the best fighter in the sport of boxing.
