Ballard, Espadas fight to no-contest, Eddie Gomez wins
Middleweight D’Mitrius Ballard (20-0 13KOs) and Elias Espadas (18-4 13KOs) fought to a no-contest as a head clash between the two that happened in the first round that opened up a sizable cut above Espadas’ eye. The bout was very even with Ballard landing great body shots that slowed down Espadas, but Espadas timed Ballard’s lethargic jab with an overhand right that pushed him back.
The bout was called off in the third round, this is the second no-contest of Ballard’s career.
Welterweight Eddie Gomez (23-3 13KOs) stopped Saul Corral (30-14 20KOs) in the second round as he worked Corral’s body in round one, and stopped him on the ropes in the second.
“My best friend, my dad, he passed away like, six days before my last fight….this is not only me in here, it is me and my dad.” said Gomez after the fight in the ring.
WBC super middleweight world champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn (5-1 2KOs) defeated Kayla Williams (0-3-1) via a five stoppage. Williams was game and made Crews-Dezurn work early on, but we saw Crews-Dezurn take over and get the stoppage
Welterweight George Rincon (7-0) picked up a fourth-round knockout over Greg Young Jr (4-2 1KO) in a six-round bout.
Gabriel Pham (11-1 5 KO) picked up a six-round decision over Jaba Khositashvili (4-1 2KOs) with the judges seeing it 59-54 two times and 60-53. Pham scored a KD in the first round and cruised from there, mark another win for Chino Rivas’ boxing stable.
Super lightweight Mike Reed (25-2 13KOs) picked up an eight-round decision over Angel Hernandez (15-13-2 9KOs).
Dan Murray (5-2) picked up a four round decision over Leonardo Kenon (3-6 1KO).
