Manny Pacquiao turns back time, beats Keith Thurman by split decision

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is now a thirteen-time world champion after defeating Keith “One-Time” Thurman in the main event bout of the FOX pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to win the WBA welterweight world title, Thurman previously held.

The bout started fast with both fighters trying to earn each other’s respect. Thurman tried to bait Pacquiao in with a counter in the first round, but a right hook over a Thurman jab saw Thurman hit the canvas in the first round. The second and third round saw Pacquiao get the better of the action with Thurman looking to throw with power and push back Pacquiao.

Thurman knew it was urgent as he pressed Pacquiao for the whole round putting him on the ropes and edging the fourth round. Thurman went back to his corner in the fourth round spitting blood. The fifth saw a competitive round that Thurman was winning with pressure end with Pacquiao landing a ton at the end.

The sixth round saw Thurman’s best effort of the fight finding his best punches land at the end of the round as his feints lead to an overhand right-left hook combo. Thurman got on his bike and used his legs to pick up a dominant and commanding win in the seventh round.

The eighth and ninth round saw Thurman looking to use his size advantage against Manny Pacquiao. The tenth round saw Keith Thurman get hurt to the body and spending most of the time surviving. The eleventh followed the pattern of the previous with Pacquiao just landing the better stuff. Thurman just didn’t have the power or the punch output to best Pacquiao.

ITRBoxing scored the bout 116-111 for Manny Pacquiao.

The judges saw it 114-113 for Thurman and the other two 115-112 and 115-112 for Pacquiao, giving him a split decision win.
