DAY FIVE U.S. OLYMPIC BOXING TRIALS RESULTS, HALF OF THE FINALS SET

The following are the results from the fifth day of the Olympic Trials on Friday, December 13th, 2019, from Lake Charles, La. Half of the finals are set for championship Sunday, and remember the tournament is double elimination, meaning undefeated fighters who lose on Sunday will have one more fight on Monday.

114 Men’s

Abraham Perez defeated Anthony Herrera to advance to the finals and Roscoe Hill defeated Jose Nieves.

Herrera will face Hill tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Perez for the Olympic spot at Men’s 114 lbs. Herrera and Hill have not faced each in the Olympic Trials.

If Perez loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Jose Nieves is now eliminated.

125 Men’s

Number eight seed Bruce Carrington defeated Rashiem Jefferson and David Navarro defeated #1 seed Duke Ragan.

Navarro will face Jefferson tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Carrington for the Olympic spot at Men’s 125 lbs. Jefferson and Navarro have yet to meet in the trials.

If Carrington loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Duke Ragan is now eliminated.

138 Men’s

Keyshawn Davis defeated Charlie Sheehy to advance to the finals and Ernesto Mercado defeated Harley Mederos.

Sheehy will face Mercado tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Davis for the Olympic spot at Men’s 138 lbs.

If Davis loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Harley Mederos is now eliminated.

152 Men’s

Delante “Tiger” Johnson defeated Kelvin Davis to advance to the finals and #1 seed Freudis Rojas Jr. defeated Lavars Carter, as Rojas avenged his loss from the first day of the Olympic Trials.

Rojas will face Davis tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Johnson for the Olympic spot at Men’s 152 lbs.

If Johnson loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Lavars Carter is now eliminated.

165 Men’s

Javier Martinez defeated Troy Isley to advance to the finals and Joseph Hicks defeated Francis Hogan.

Isley will face Hicks tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Martinez for the Olympic spot at Men’s 165 lbs. Isley holds previous wins over Hicks, but the two have yet to meet in the Olympic Trials.

If Martinez loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Francis Hogan is now eliminated.

178 Men’s

Rahim Gonzales defeated Atif Oberlton to advance to the finals and Orville Crooks defeated Nasheed Smith.

Oberlton will now face Crooks tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Gonzales for the Olympic spot at men’s 178 lbs.

If Gonzales loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Nasheed Smith is now eliminated.

201 Men’s

The Cinderella story of Darius Fulghum, the number eight seed entering the trials continues as Fulghum defeated Jamar Talley to advance to the finals and Brandon Moore defeated Devon Young.

Talley will face Moore tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Fulghum for the Olympic spot at Men’s 201 lbs. Talley and Moore haven’t faced each other yet at the tournament

If Fulghum loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Devon Young is now eliminated.

201+ Men’s

Antonio Mireles defeated Jeremiah Milton to advance to the finals and Luis Alvarado defeated Kenyon Walker.

Jeremiah Milton will face Alvarado tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Mireles for the Olympic spot at Men’s 201+ lbs. Milton and Alvarado fought on day three with Milton winning that bout, this is a rematch.

If Mireles loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be his first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

The runner-up of the tournament will face Richard Torrez Jr., who was medically exempt after being knocked out in international competition in a box-off.

Kenyon Walker is now eliminated.

112 Women’s

Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs defeated Heaven Garcia and Christina Cruz defeated Mariana Gonzalez.

Garcia will face Cruz tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Fuchs for the Olympic spot at women’s 112 lbs. Garcia and Cruz have not fought at the trials, but fought a year ago at nationals in which Garcia beat Cruz,

If Fuchs loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Mariana Gonzalez is now eliminated.

125 Women’s

Andrea Medina defeated Lupe Gutierrez to advance to the finals and Isamary Aquino defeated “Right Hook Roxy” Iyana Verduzco

Gutierrez will face Aquino tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Medina for the Olympic spot at women’s 125 lbs. Gutierrez beat Aquino on the first day of competition, this is a rematch.

If Medina loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

“Right Hook Roxy” Iyana Verduzco is now eliminated.

132 Women’s

Rashida Ellis defeated Kimberly Carlson to advance to the finals and Amelia Moore defeated Jennifer Lopez.

Carlson will face Moore tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Ellis for the Olympic spot at women’s 132 lbs. Carlson beat Moore on the third day of competition, this is a rematch.

If Ellis loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Jennifer Lopez is now eliminated.

152 Women’s

Oshae Jones defeated Danyelle Wolf to advance to the finals and Briana Che defeated Mary Spencer.

Wolf will face Che tomorrow, the winner will fight on Sunday in the finals against Jones for the Olympic final at women’s 152 lbs.

If Jones loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Mary Spencer is now eliminated.

165 Women’s

Naomi Graham received a walkover against Morelle McCane to advance to the finals and Alexis Gomez defeated Melody Popravak.

Alexis Gomez will receive a walkover tomorrow against Morelle McCane, as she will face Graham on Sunday in the finals for the women’s 165 final. The bout is a rematch as Graham beat Gomez on the second day of competition.

If Graham loses on Sunday, a match would be held on Monday as it would be her first loss in the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Melody Popravak and Morelle McCane are now eliminated
