U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials Finals Results from Lake Carles, La

Results from the finals from U.S. Olympic Trials from Lake Charles, La.

In the 112 women’s division, Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs defeated Christina Cruz. Fuchs has now won two consecutive Olympic Trials as well as was very popular all-week due to her being an LSU alum. Fuchs never lost all week.

In the 114 lbs division, Abraham Perez of New Mexico defeated Anthony Herrera. Perez never lost a bout all week.

In the 125 lbs women’s division, Lupe Gutierrez of Sacramento, Ca defeated Andrea Medina to force a box-off for tomorrow. The fight was highly entertaining.

In the 125 lbs division, Bruce Carrington defeated David Navarro. Carrington entered as the eighth seed in the tournament and went unbeaten for the whole week.

Rashida Ellis defeated Amelia Moore to win the 132 lbs women’s division. Ellis never lost this week in the tournament.

Keyshawn Davis, who many viewed as one of the best in the tournament, won a walkover against Ernesto Mercado, who failed to show up to the bout today at the 138 lbs. division after an illness failed to allow him to compete. Davis wins the 138 lbs tournament, and never lost in the tournament.

Oshae Jones defeated Briana Che in a dominant fashion. Jones wins the 152 women’s division, and now is one of the favorites to medal in the Olympics as she won gold at the Pan-Am Games. Jones never lost in the tournament.

Delante “Tiger” Johnson defeated Freudis Rojas Jr. to win the 152 men’s division. Johnson never lost in the tournament and won at the Oxnard Last Chance Qualifier a month prior.

Naomi Graham defeated Morelle McCane to win the women’s 165 division. Graham never lost this whole week of competition.

Joseph Hicks of Michigan defeated Javier Martinez in the 165 lbs men’s division. Since Martinez was undefeated prior, Martinez and Hicks will face each other tomorrow in a box-off.

Rahim Gonzales defeated Atif Oberlton to win the men’s 178 lbs division. Gonzales never lost at the Olympic Trials.

Probably the craziest story of the tournament was Darius Fulghum, who was a lesser-known 201 lber in the eighth seed, who lost a close fight to #7 seed Jamar Talley. Fulghum and Talley will face-off tomorrow in the box-off.

Antonio Mireles defeated Jeremiah Milton to win the 201+ division, Milton was only fighter to get an eight-count as Mireles forced the eight-count in the third round. Mireles never lost this week at the Olympic Trials. Milton will now have to face Richard Torrez Jr. on January 4th in a box-off to keep his spot.

Monday’s bout will be the following three fights.

Women’s 125 Lupe Gutierrez versus Andrea Medina

Men’s 165 Joseph Hicks versus Javier Martinez

Men’s 201 Jamar Talley versus Darius Fulghum
