Alex Saucedo Wins On ESPN, Isiah Jones With The Upset
Perennial super lightweight contender Alex Saucedo (30-1, 19 KOs) thoroughly dominate defeating former prospect Sonny Fredrickson (21-3, 14 KOs) on Tuesday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Saucedo outworked Fredrickson to win 99-91, 98-92, 100-90.
Saucedo’s pressure was too much for Fredrickson, who gave up his height early in the fight. Saucedo showed off his high-punch output while Fredrickson constantly put himself on the ropes.
The drama outside of the ring was more entertaining to some than the fight itself, as Vargas’ father was not allowed to reenter “the bubble”, and Raul “Chino” Rivas worked Vargas’ corner. Vargas (17-1, 9 KOs) soundly outpointed Salvador Briceno (17-6, 11 KOs) in a great developmental bout for the young fighter.
The judges had it 99-91, 100-90, 100-90.
Super lightweight John Bauza (14-0, 5 KOs) picked up a solid dominant decision over Larry Fryers (11-3, 4 KOs) with the scores of 79-73, 80-72, 80-72.
Middleweight Isiah Jones (9-2, 3 KOs), fought on ESPN 15 days ago, only to win in his second outing on television outboxing Donte Stubbs (6-1, 2 KOs). The judges saw it 57-57, 58-56, 59-55 for Jones.
