Canelo Alvarez moving back to middleweight after December 15th

Trainer of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Eddy Reynoso, made it perfectly clear that Canelo Alvarez’s world title fight against WBA super middleweight world champion Rocky Fielding on December 15th is a trial run at the higher weights.

“We’ll be moving up in weight, and when a boxer does that, he’s basically experimenting. We know that we have a great fighter in front of us and that Canelo will be preparing well, so height won’t be a problem to us. He’ll adapt to those type of fighters and he has worked with those type of boxers throughout his career. I have no doubt that he’ll be successful in this fight.” said the esteemed trainer.

Alvarez, who defeated Gennady Golovkin in their rematch in September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, recently signed 365 million dollars, five-year, eleven fight deal with the recently birthed DAZN streaming service that charges $10 a month for their content. Alvarez now is looking to become a three-division world champion and make history fighting at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

“Right now the goal, the objective, is to fight for this world title and win on December 15 and then go back to 160 points where I do best. If we’ll be moving up and down those divisions, we didn’t know, but right now our goal is to get the title to middleweight.” said Canelo Alvarez on a conference call Tuesday.

Alvarez, a fighting champion has taken some criticism for his positive drug test ahead of his May fight date with Gennady Golovkin, only to return quickly to the ring after beating Golovkin. Canelo explained his reasoning.

“It’s because I had rest for one year. I like to be fighting. I like to be active, at least having two fights a year, and that’s why we wanted to do this so fast.”
Alvarez, also is a fighter who despite what people have said negatively about him has tried to face the best opposition at all times as he faced Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Floyd Mayweather (the man to beat Canelo) and Gennady Golovkin, despite people doubting he’d face any of them, prior to the fight bookings.
“When it’s done, I’ll come back to 160 pounds.” said Canelo Alvarez, who made it clear he has unfinished business at 160 pounds.
“It’s very important to have great fights at any weight. To return at 160 where I feel best, that’s what I have in mind, to go back to 160 and do what I always do, which is look for the best fights.”
Right now on DAZN alone, Canelo Alvarez has his choice between Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, Jaime Munguia, Daniel Jacobs as well as potentially a Gennady Golovkin trilogy fight at the middleweight division alone and don’t forget the WBC mandatory contender Jermall Charlo, who hold the interim WBC middleweight title right now as well. In short, the middleweight division might not
I love boxing. If I could fight every month, I would love that. I love what I do and that’s what has maintained me where I am right now.”
