Aleksandr Usyk out of May 25th bout, hurts biecp

Aleksandr Usyk, the man best known for unifying the cruiserweight division last year, a division that most would be hard pressed to name five fighters in the division, will have to wait a bit longer to make his heavyweight debut as his May 25th fight date at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, will no longer feature him on the card.

Egis Klimas, the manager of Usyk took to Twitter to explain that Usky had hurt his bicep.

Prior to this news, Usyk’s debut at the heavyweight division was going very much under the radar and was actually moved back a week as Deontay Wilder versus Dominic Breazeale was scheduled on the same day, and the bout was moved. Usyk, the consensus 2018 fighter of the year, will now have to wait until the fourth quarter to return as 2019 will see him far less active.

The card also featured lightweight Devin Haney, a recent addition to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom USA who is set to face Antonio Moran in his DAZN debut. Haney is currently within walking distance to a WBC world title shot.

Also featured on the card would be former Usyk foe, Michael Hunter, who is now fighting at heavyweight.

Above is Eddie Hearn’s official comment at the moment on whether the card will still happen or if the fighters will be moved to other cards.
