Scrappy Ramirez Headlines Thursday Night Golden Boy Card
John “Scrappy” Ramirez (10-0, 8 KOs) is an intriguing super flyweight prospect from Los Angeles, California who is getting his first opportunity to headline a Golden Boy Promotions card tomorrow night on DAZN. The card will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. With great super flyweights of this generation such as Juan Estrada (44-3, 28 KOs) and Roman Gonzalez (51-4, 41 KOs) getting older, Scrappy is someone that has the potential to be one of the marquee names of the division for the next generation.
He will be squaring off against Luis Villa Padilla (15-3-2, 2 KOs) in a ten round bout. Padilla is from Guadalajara, Mexico, and will be making his US debut. He is the more experienced of the two, and will have to rely on that because the skill and explosiveness advantages are with Ramirez. Scrappy has never been past the sixth round in a pro fight, while Padilla has gone the twelve round distance before. My guess is his gameplan will be to survive the early rounds and attempt to drown Ramirez in the later rounds if he begins to fade.
For Scrappy Ramirez, this is an opportunity to show out and make a major statement as a headliner. He had one of the most impressive knockouts of 2022 (shown below), and a repeat of that would send shockwaves through the sport and prove that he has arrived as a major attraction in the lower weights. Though this is one of his toughest tests to date, I expect Ramirez to deliver and score yet another impressive stoppage victory.
Ramirez is aware of the hype around him and what comes with it. He has not let naysayers deter him from his goals, and he is eager to prove them wrong.
“Fans can expect a great show on DAZN from me. I’m on my way up proving that I’m someone to watch.”
The card will be available live on DAZN, as well as on Golden Boy Promotions’ YouTube page starting at 9:00pm EST.
