CLARESSA “THE GWOAT” SHIELDS SHUTS IT DOWN IN DETROIT, DEFENDS UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT CROWN WITH DOMINANT WIN OVER LANI DANIELS

DETROIT – July 27, 2025 – The energy inside Little Caesars Arena was electric, and the city’s own Claressa Shields (17-0, 3 KOs) gave the hometown crowd exactly what they came for—a masterclass performance and another chapter in her legacy as the Greatest Woman of All Time. Shields successfully defended her Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship with a commanding unanimous decision victory over IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Lani Daniels (11-3, 1 KO), live on DAZN.

From the moment the lights went down, Detroit let the world know what time it was. The ring walk? Legendary. The arena shook as chants of “Whoop That Trick!” erupted, leading into a live marching band and rap icon Rick Ross escorting Claressa to the ring like royalty. And every time Claressa hit the jumbotron—ringside, walking her fighter Samantha Worthington to the ring, or just vibing backstage—the building erupted. Detroit loves their queen, and they showed out.

Inside the ropes, the GWOAT reminded everybody why she’s in a class of her own. Already the first boxer—male or female—to become undisputed in three divisions, Shields dominated from start to finish. The judges scored it 100-90 and 99-91 twice. From the opening bell, Claressa went to work, mixing head and body shots, keeping Daniels on the ropes, and dictating every exchange. Daniels came to survive, but Shields came to send a message.

“There is nothing like a Detroit crowd. They were chanting ‘Whoop that Trick.’ This is definitely my house, and we blew the roof off.” – Claressa Shields

Post-fight, Shields gave thanks and showed love to the city:

“I just want to thank God. I was praying for a sold-out Little Caesars Arena since the first time I fought here. Many people from around the world came out, and I am truly grateful for that.”

“Lani Daniels was a tough opponent. I broke her down to the body and the head. She headbutted me twice, but I adjusted. I feel like I beat her even with my back against the ropes—I can throw from anywhere.”

TONY HARRISON RETURNS IN STYLE WITH DETROIT HEAT BEHIND HIM

The co-main was pure Detroit flavor. Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (30-4-1, 21 KOs) returned after a 26-month layoff and did it big—walking to the ring with Detroit rap stars Icewear Vezzo and Babyface Ray, setting the tone for the night. Harrison started sharp, working that elite jab and banking rounds against Edward Diaz (15-7, 12 KOs).

But in round nine, the fight flipped when Diaz landed a huge right that dropped Tony. Harrison got up, went to war in the 10th, and walked away with a unanimous decision (98-91, 97-92, and 96-93).

“Two and a half years away has been a really long time. At first I thought, ‘Why am I back?’ But then I started having fun. I missed this so much. I love boxing.” – Tony Harrison

SAMANTHA WORTHINGTON SECURES WBA INTERIM TITLE

Samantha “The Heat” Worthington (12-0, 7 KOs) took another step toward greatness by earning the WBA Super Lightweight Interim Title with a majority decision win over Victoire Piteau (14-3, 2 KOs). Co-promoted by Claressa Shields’ T-Rex Promotions and Salita Promotions, Worthington showed grit and skill to remain undefeated.

“This is my first of many belts. Jesus completely changed my life on February 8, 2015. I’m excited for the journey.” – Samantha Worthington

Congratulations to the New Champ!

MORE RESULTS FROM DETROIT

  • Pryce Taylor (9-0, 6 KOs) dominated Robert Simms with an eight-round shutout.
  • Caroline Veyre (10-1, 0 KOs) claimed the WBC Silver Featherweight Title in a hard-fought win over Licia Boudersa.
  • Michigan standouts Sardius Simmons, Da’Velle Smith, and Leon Lawson all handled business and kept the home crowd hyped.

FINAL WORD

From Rick Ross and the marching band leading Claressa to the ring, to Detroit rappers holding Tony Harrison down, this wasn’t just a boxing event—it was a full-blown cultural celebration. Claressa Shields cemented her dominance yet again, proving why she’s the face of women’s boxing and Michigan’s pride.
