Miguel Cotto stops Daniel Geale in four rounds

Lineal middleweight champion Miguel Cotto easily defeated Daniel Geale in front of a full arena at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY as he finished Geale by way of fourth round knockout. Cotto landed a thudding left hook that buckled Geale early in the fight and appeared to have the much bigger fighter on unable to respond. For some bizarre reason, Geale even when hurt was told by his corner to bang with Cotto, the better boxer and puncher, which seemed to expedite the knockout as the second left hook sealed the deal on Geale’s fate.

Cotto caught a lot of bad publicity prior to the fight since he defended his WBC middleweight championship at a catchweight of 157 lbs. , which is below the 160 lbs. limit for the middleweight division. Despite the impressive performance, it will still be marred by the catchweight since Cotto looked a class above Geale at any weight.

For Cotto, the talk will now be about who will he fight next as two fights appear in store as a mega-fight with Canelo Alvarez looms on the horizon or a clash with #1 contender in the middleweight division, Gennady Golovkin. Cotto, who recently signed to Roc Nation has coincidently two fights remaining on his contract though it is doubtful he fight both foes.
