Barthelemey dominates DeMarco, Vasquez survives late resurgence from Omotoso
Former 130 lbs. champion Rances Barthelemy (23-0, 13 KOs) proved his power is still good at junior welterweight as he dropped Antonio DeMarco in the fourth round with a straight left that seemed to take a lot of the fight out of DeMarco. Barthelemy switched stances often and sort of lulled DeMarco into traps by baiting him into shots that looked at though he was unable to throw as it showed a distinction in skill level between the two fighters.
Barthelemy was deducted a point in the ninth round for hip shots, i.e. low blows, but it really didn’t take away much as it was a dominant one sided victory. The judges scored the bout 99-89 for Rances Barthelemy giving him every single with the exception of which being the round he lost a point in.
In the opening bout, unbeaten welterweight Sammy “The Who Can Mexican” Vasquez (18-0, 13 KOs) outboxed Wale “Lucky Boy” Omotoso (25-1, 21 KOs) over ten rounds on Sunday afternoon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, but not without moments of high drama. Vasquez picked up rounds early and often essentially stealing the begining of the fight, knowing he was down Omotoso began to bring pressure for the last three to four rounds of the fight which saw Vasquez bloodied and at times looking like he might be in trouble. In the end Vasquez got the nod with the scores being 98-92 on all cards.
