Petrov KOs Quintero, Sanchez decisions Cano

In a battle of sluggers, Petr “Zar” Petrov (37-4-2, 17 KOs) proved to have more power as he stopped Marvin “Cachorro” Quintero (28-7, 24 KOs) in the sixth round of a WBA lightweight elimination clash, Friday night at the outdoor Toshiba Plaza in front of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on a card that took place right after Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan’s weigh-in. Petrov connected with a right had that forced swelling over Quintero’s eye and was nearly shut by round three. Quintero tried to push on at times appearing to hurt Petrov, but was unable to finish strong enough after a early rally in the fifth as the doctor called a stop to the bout between rounds.

Welterweight Alan Sanchez (18-3-1, 9 KOs) outclassed  Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (29-5-1, 21 KOs) despite a split decision victory. Sanchez used his 6 foot plus height advantage to keep Cano at distance forcing him to do a whole lot of nothing. The judges scored the bout 97-93, 97-93 on two cards. Cano was up 96-94 on the third card. Sanchez claimed the vacant WBC regional belt and ranks him in their world champion rankings.

In a good start to the RingTVLive.com card, super bantamweight Horacio “Violento” Garcia (30-1-1, 22 KOs) and Erik Ruiz (15-5-1, 6 KOs) battled to a ten round draw in a very entertaining fight. Ruiz seemingly gave Garcia all he could handle and finished very strong, but Garcia appeared to have done enough to have edged the first half of the fight. The judges scored the bout 98-92 Ruiz, 97-93 Garcia, and 95-95.
