Ray Beltran knocks out Jonathan Maicelo in TWO
In the HBO television opener, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, NABF lightweight champion Ray Beltran (34-7-1 22KOs) brutally knocked out Jonathan Maicelo (25-3 12KOs) in a cracker jack of a fight that only lasted two rounds.
Beltran was dropped by a head butt in the first round that was wrongly ruled a knock down that opened a cut over his left eye. Beltran struggled to mount any offense against Maicelo as he appeared to be rocked by the Peruvian fighter who was going in for the kill, when Beltran landed a thudding left hook that kept Maicelo on the canvas well beyond the canvas. Maicelo was actually stretchered out.
Beltran leading into this fight was making headlines since his U.S. citizenship was on the line as without a title, Beltran would of lost his green card.
Beltran is now the number one contender for the IBF lightweight title, which is held by Robert Easter Jr., who is scheduled to defend it against Denis Shafikov on June 30th.
