Weights from Inglewood, CA, Tino Avila and co-main event scrapped

In a bizarre series of events, the seemingly ill-fated Golden Boy show September 23rd taking place at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, CA, saw two fights fall through sliming the card down to a mere five bouts

The co-main event between junior welterweight Antonio Orozco and Roberto Ortiz was canceled when both Orozco and Ortiz were very overweight. Some on-site relayed to the reporter that the night prior Orozco had reached out to Ortiz’s team asking for a catchweight of 142 lbs. with a plus one meaning 143 lbs. would mean the fighter would still make weight. That being said Orozco never attempted to weigh-in as he stayed in his hotel room and never officially weighed-in as he lost his first fight on HBO to the scale. Ortiz clocked in at 142.5 lbs, 2.5 lbs over the junior welterweight minimum.

Northern California fighter Manuel “Tino” Avila, on the other hand, made the weight easily but saw his opponent Ramiro Robles fail a blood test 24 hours before the fight meaning that the fight was null and void and that Avila would be left without an opponent.

The remaining bouts are as follows, the main event is also a WBA lightweight title fight

Jorge Linares 134.2 vs. Luke Campbell 134.8
Romero Duno 134 vs. Juan Sanchez 133.6
Azat Hovhannisyan 122 vs. Sergio Frias 120.6
Abraham Lopez 127.8 vs. Isao Carranza 126.8

Rafael Gramajo 120.8 vs. Pedro Melo 121.2
