“YES INDEED” REED REFLECTS ON HIS RECENT TKO WIN, RETURNS JUNE 13 IN NYC!
Mike Reed will return to the ring at New York City’s Theater at Madison Square Garden on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” fight card.
WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. – Top Rank light welterweight professional boxer, Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (Washington, D.C.) will return to the ring on Saturday night, June 13, on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” undercard, held at New York City’s Theater at Madison Square Garden. Reed will face Puerto Rico’s Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-1-1, 6 KOs) in an 8 round bout promoted by Top Rank, in association with All-Star Boxing. In the main event, Jamaica’s Nicholas “The Axe Man” Walters (25-0, 21 KOs) defends his WBA World Featherweight Title against Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga (20-0, 18 KOs), and in the co-main event, Puerto Rico’s Felix Verdejo (17-0, 13 KOs) will battle San Antonio’s Ivan Najera (16-0, 8 KOs). The fight card on June 13 takes place on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City.
In his recent fight on the May 8 Tru TV non-televised undercard, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Reed defeated Osenohad Vazquez by TKO at 2:00 of Round 2. Reed’s record improved to 14-0, with 8 KOs, while Vazquez saw his record drop to 8-4-1, with 3 KOs. Reed said, “My last fight went really well. I felt like I stuck to our game plan, which was to jump on him, hit him hard, and hit him early. I did what I was supposed to do and it really worked out for me. I knew from his last fight that he’d have doubt in his mind since he was knocked out in that fight, and I took full advantage of that. I’ve learned that I won’t be able to continue making 140 pounds the way that I have been. My body is growing and changing, so it’s time to start changing my diet with it. I’m already working in the gym and have started to shift my diet and cut weight.”
Reed discussed his fight with Gonzalez on June 13. He said, “I’m excited to be fighting at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on a stacked HBO Boxing card. We are stepping up in opposition, and I’m ready for that. My opponent’s one loss came against Ramesis Gil, who I defeated earlier in my career. This should be a great fight, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s an honor to fight on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade. I’m looking forward to having lots of Puerto Rican fans get on board with Team Reed.”
Michael “Buck” Pinson, Reed’s father, trainer, and manager (Dream Team Boxing Gym/Clinton, MD), said, “I thought he did well in his last fight, and did was he was supposed to do. I didn’t appreciate him coming into weigh-ins at the weight he did. That being said, I was proud of his effort during the fight. Mike did put his punches together very well, and he used some of the things we’ve been working on in the gym. We are definitely looking forward to stepping up the competition on June 13 at MSG Theater. I’m excited to be back on another big HBO card, and it’s another great opportunity for us to show what we can do. We expect Gonzalez to bring his best, and we’ll be ready. We went back to the drawing board to improve on some things. In this game, the learning never stops, and there’s always room for improvement. Come June 13, we’ll be ready to put on a show at the Garden.”
