ShoBox Results: Douglas KOs Szili, Magomedov UDs Webster

Douglas stops Szili in three rounds

Antoine Douglas (18-0-1 12KOs) stopped undefeated Istvan Szili (18-1-2 8KOs) with an emphatic third knockout in the main event of ShoBox telecast from Bethlehem PA at the Sands Casino Resort. Douglas who fought on the outside in the first round saw a change in the second as opted to contrast his style. Douglas began to come forward and fight on the inside as he dropped Szili, the traditional come forward, pressure fighter, who barely beat the 10-count by the referee and was saved by the bell. Douglas left no doubt as he dropped Szili two more times in the third round as the ref called it off upon the final knockdown which came at 37 seconds in the third round. With this victory Douglas earned the WBC Latino middleweight title and a potential shot at a top ten fighter in his next bout.

Magomedov dominates Webster

Middleweight Arif Magomedov (16-0 9KOs) easily defeated Derrick “Take It To The Bank” Webster (19-1 10KOs) by way of a unanimous decision with every judge scoring the bout 99-89. Magomedov’s pressure appeared too much for Webster who was unable to adjust as it outside of the fourth round, the lone round that pundits gave to Webster. Other than that one round, it appeared Webster was simply there to survive. This was furthered by Magomedov dropped Webster in the final round with a right hand that solidify the performance. With this win Magomedov becomes the WBO NABO middleweight champion, regional title that gets you ranked for a world title.

Lopez edges close decision over Aquino

In a clash of unbeaten bantamweights, Adam “Mantequilla” Lopez (13-0, 6 KOs) won a ten round majority decision over Eliezer “Campeoncito” Aquino (17-1-1, 11 KOs) on the second televised bout. Lopez started fast dropping Aquino in the first round. The bout appeared to be all Lopez up until about round four or five when Lopez began to slow down. In stark contrast Aquino closed the fight strong winning at least the last three rounds. The scores were 95-95, 96-93, 96-93 for Lopez, but a very pro-Aquino crowd, partially because of the resolve he showed to rally back in the fight booed heavily when the decision was announced.

Clarkson upsets Odom

In an upset, super middleweight Samuel “The Main Event” Clarkson (15-3, 9 KOs) scored a third round TKO over highly regarded Jerry “The King’s Son” Odom (13-2, 12 KOs). Clarkson dropped Odum in round two, and twice in round three. Clarkson who had been viewed as a solid fighter, but was very much overlooked during the booking of this bout had the last laugh as he steamrolled the heavy favorite.  It is also important to note that Clarkson missed weight by three pounds yesterday, which though shouldn’t make a difference in the big scheme of things, could also explain the somewhat dramatic difference in power as Clarkson appeared much stronger.
