Stevenson bashes Kovalev via Twitter

Lineal light heavyweight champion and WBC champ, Adonis Stevenson, took to Twitter to mock Sergey Kovalev who headlines a card on HBO this weekend in Las Vegas, NV. In a simple tweet, Stevenson refers to Kovalev as “that Russian guy” who ducked a purse bid to face him which allowed Stevenson to attend a Wyclef Jean concert.

What Stevenson is reference is Kovalev and promoter, Kathy Duva (Main Events) spent months talking about getting a number one contender spot for the WBC light heavyweight title. When this was obtained a purse bid set, Kovalev pulled out last minute due to his promoters, feeling that they could not win the purse bid against Premier Boxing Champions and didn’t want to violate and exclusive contract with HBO Boxing, which they stated they’d be liable for. Confused? So are all the rest of us. The big thing is the fact Kovalev withdrew from the purse bid and is returning to action this week against an opponent very few are excited about.
