Avalos, Ramos earn wins on Solo Boxeo
IBF #9 ranked super bantamweight Chris Avalos (26-3, 19 KO) earned an eight round unanimous decision over Rey Perez (19-7, 4 KO) in the main event of Top Rank Boxing’s event at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. Avalos, who last fought in February in a world title fight in Ireland where he was stopped by world champion Carl Frampton in the fifth round, showed he was in good enough shape to go eight rounds on a week’s notice as he replaced Jessie Magdaleno who got injured last minute. Avalos was just a step above in skill level making it hard for Perez to present problems, the judges scored the bout 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73.
In the co-main event, super featherweight Casey Ramos (20-0, 5KO) swept Daniel Evangelista Jr (17-6-1, 13KO) over the course of eight rounds. It was not a breathe taking performance as Ramos started slow, but began to land accurately towards the end of the fight. It appeared late in the bout Ramos was gunning for a stoppage, but simply couldn’t put it together.
