Valdez, Hart steal show on TruTV
Unbeaten two-time Mexican Olympian featherweight Oscar Valdez scored an impressive fifth round TKO over former contender Chris “The Hitman” Avalos on Friday night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Valdez had an answer for everything Avalos presented eventually dropping him in round three and rocking him in rounds four and five. The fight was stopped mercifully as Avalos was taking far too much damage
Unbeaten super middleweight Jesse “Hard Work” Hart put forth a dominate performance capped off by his ninth round TKO against Aaron Pryor Jr in a clash for the NABO and USBA titles. Hart dominated every round, but seemed to smoother himself at times . The time of the stoppage was 2:51.
In other bouts, Erick De Leon earned a hard fought decision win over Angel Hernandez. Maryland’s Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed knoceked out Antonio Canas as a left uppercut started the job, but a flurry on the ropes ended it. Reed continues to impress as he worked the body and head nicely in combinations. Undefeated 2012 Olympic light heavyweight gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev got off the deck to beat Jackson Junior in a back and forth eight round decision the judges had 77-73, 77-74 and 77-74 for Mekhontsev. In the opening bout, lightweight Thomas Smith upset Frankie Winton as his pure pressure ended up causing Winton to hit the canvas as Smith edged a decision.
