Juan Manuel Marquez hopes for July return, eyes Cotto
Pound-for-pound former world champion world champion Juan Manuel Marquez believes his career is not quite over yet as he spoke with Luis Sandoval of FightHype.com.
“Yeah, I start training [SIC], I’d like to fight in July and maybe in Mexico City.”
Marquez who last hit the ring to decisively beat Mike Alvarado has been inactive and largely thought of to be retired, but Marquez after Pacquiao-Bradley III expressed that not to be the case.
“I feel good, but when I train every morning and every evening, I need to see [how it goes]”
Essentially, Marquez is hopeful to return to action, but at age 42 and only getting older, Marquez is not naive to think he may not have another run left in him let alone another fight.
Marquez furthered that Miguel Cotto wants a fight with him and that he would like to take one fight before Cotto.
“If Cotto wants a fight with me and I feel good, [and] it is at 147 lbs, let’s do it.”
In essence, if Marquez’s body holds up he will fight again, but feeling the wounds of war in his early forties, it seems as though Marquez will only come back out of retirement for a big money fight.
