“Tino” Avila wins in Northern California
Featherweight Manuel Avila (21-0 8KOs) of nearby Fairfield kept his spotless record intact with a 10-round unanimous decision over Prosper Ankrah (24-8 15KOs)) of Ghana in Saturday night’s pro boxing main event at Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks. The bout saw Avila outclassing Ankrah with a good jab and use of distance. Avila won the regioanl IBA Americas title and after the bout said he’d welcome a Joseph Diaz Jr. fight at 126 lbs, but also mentioned he might return to 122 lbs. . Ankrah was deducted points for fouls.
In an entertaining co-main event super bantamweight Manuel Roman picked up a by majority decision over Javier Gallo in an action packed fight.
Popular Vallejo, CA light heavyweight Ryan Bourland (10-1 4KOs) got off the canvas to win a six-round split decision over Gilberto Rubio (6-3 4KOs).This was Bourland’s first six round bout of his career.
Alberto Torres (7-0-2 3KOs) of Caballero Boxing Gym in Sacramento, CA avenged one of his career draws a he pulled out a majority decision over Jesus Sandoval (5-10-3 1KO) in a six round bout. After the bout, Torres told ITRBoxing.com he would like to avenge his draw to Roc Nation Sports’ Daniel Franco in the near future.
Lightweight Pedro Moreno (3-0 3KOs) continued his knockout streak as he has started his professional career fantastically stopping Derick Bartlemay (0-4-1) in the first round . The night started with popular Sacramento cruiserweight Blake McKernan (3-0 2KOs) picking up a second round TKO over pro debuter Michael Gonzalez (0-1).
