Gvodzyk gets off deck to stop Karpency on PPV opening bout
Light heavyweight Oleksandr Gvodzyk (11-0, 9 KOs) survived a scare before stopping game journeyman Tommy Karpency (26-6-1, 15 KOs) in the sixth round of the opening bout of the pay-per-view portion of the Terence Crawford versus Viktor Postol card.
The bout was not all smooth sailing for Gvodzyk who was sent to the floor in the first round and nearly finished. Gvodzyk would recover and eventually create a steady, plodding pace that would overwhelm Karpency who didn’t appear to be in fight shape and seemingly was constantly complaining in his corner. In the fifth Karpency was cut on his nose in the following round he was sent to the canvas and though he took a knee he refused to stand up
