Mairis Briedis dominates Marco Huck in Germany
Cruiserweight Mairis Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs) claimed the vacant WBC world title with a dominant win over former cruiserweight ace Marco Huck (40-4-1, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany.
In a bout that internet journalist dubbed as an “all-out war” prior to the bout, fell short of expectations as Briedis was the far superior boxer, who just outclassed Huck who was unable to mount offense.
The judges scored the bout 116-111, 117-110 and 118-109.
The belt was vacated when Tony Bellew moved up to heavyweight to fight David Haye, Bellew is now the WBC emeritus champion, a distinction that basically gives him the number one contender spot if he wants to fight in the weight class again.
