In the opening bout of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., undefeated featherweight Joseph Diaz Jr. (24-0 13KOs) of South El Monte, CA outpointed Manuel “Tino” Avila (22-1 8KOs) of Fairfield, CA via a ten round unanimous decision to start the Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pay-per-view from The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bout which was fairly competitive for the first five rounds until a cut opened up over Avila’s left eye, which changed the course of the fight.

The judges saw the bout 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91.
