Caleb Truax upsets James DeGale, becomes world champion
The likable Minnesotian Caleb Truax proved the oddsmakers wrong as he came in as 50-1 underdog, but left with a world title around his waist as he defeated James DeGale to become the new IBF super middleweight champion as he went into hostile territory to dethrone the champion.
From the early onset, DeGale couldn’t keep Truax off him as Truax kept trapping him in the corner, in the fifth round it went further as DeGale was battered and bruised by a right uppercut that had blood over the face of DeGale. DeGale tried to rally late, but his inability to hurt Truax was the difference.
The judges scored the bout 114-114, 115-112 and 116-112 for Caleb Truax, who wins a world title on his second attempt.
