Valdez wins with broken jaw, Vences-De Leon draw
WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (24-0, 19 KOs) won an action-packed main event that saw Scott Quigg (34-2-2, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at a rainy StubHub Center in Carson, California as both fighters left injured, Quigg with a broken nose and Valdez with a broken jaw. Quigg also missed weight by 2.8 lbs. the day prior.
The fight was an all-out action fight with Valdez winning most, but getting his jaw broken in the fifth and having to gut it out.
The judges saw the bout 117-111, 117-111, 118-110 all for Valdez
In the co-main event super featherweight and Andy ‘El Tiburon’ Vences (20-0-1,12 KOs) of San Jose, Ca battled Erick “Drywall” De Leon (17-0-1, 10 KOs) of Detroit, Michigan to a ten round draw. Vences to this reporter controlled the first sixth rounds as De Leon began to pick it up later in the fight, but didn’t seem to do enough. The judges saw it differently as one scored it 96-94 for De Leon, 95-95, and 95-95.
