Stockton Boxer Giovannie Gonzalez Returns After Retirement, Fights For Belt
Stockton, California super featherweight Giovannie Gonzalez (10-6-1, 8 KOs), will return from retirement to face Christian Rene Arenas (6-1, 3 KOs), at the Big Punch Arena, in Tijuana, Mexico, a favorite of boxing Twitter personality @TimBoxeo, as the UWO super featherweight title will be on the line, on July 2nd.
“This was a great opportunity,” said Gonzalez, who had previously closed the door on his boxing career after a loss last November. “I want to bring a belt back to Stockton for all of my fans and when this was presented to me, it was something I couldn’t pass up.”
Gonzalez who started promoting boxing events last year, will continue to promote, but will extend his own career a tad bit longer.
“My goal with boxing promotion is to make world champions and bring people up the right way,” said Gonzalez. “I am still focused on my young fighters, but I wanted to win a title as a professional and bring a belt back to the gym, and the fighters who I train with every day, after July 2nd, that goal will be accomplished.”
The bout is a rematch of Arenas last bout in 2019, in which Gonzalez knocked Arenas out in the sixth round.
