Danny Garcia Brutally Knocks Out Gonzalez in 4th
From the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn NY – He may be 37 years old and 42 fights into his career, but in his tenth and final performance at the Barclay’s center in Brooklyn NY, Danny Garcia (38-4, 22 ko) looked like himself; not a faded former champion trying to reclaim some former glory, but himself. Garcia stalked Gonzalez for the first three rounds before leveling him with his patented left hook in the fourth in a brutal knockout.
Garcia, who has fought 10 times at the Barclays center (Erik Morales, Zab Judah, Rod Salka, Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Ivan Redkach, Jose Benavidez Jr. and now Gonzalez) has said it was his final fight at the Barclay’s center, but has not confirmed whether or not it will be his last fight of his career. When asked in the post fight if he would retire from boxing he said “At the end of the day, I’m healthy and I’ve got a beautiful family. I’m not sure – there’s a high chance”.
After a one sided defeat to middleweight champion Erislandy Lara in September 2024, it looked like that might be the last we saw of Garcia. While Gonzalez (22-5-1, 7 ko) was clearly not on the level of Garcia, he was good enough that if Garcia wasn’t prepared, motivated, or didn’t have it anymore, Gonzalez had the hunger and mobility to win. It was not to be as Garcia scored a highlight reel knockout.
Should this be the final fight for Garcia, a dominant win like this would be an incredible way to go out. So often, the final images we gave of our legends are of them on their back, or not what they once were. For Garcia, maybe the story will actually be different.
