Last week, WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade was stripped by the WBO for failing to defend his title for 13 months, in fact Andrade hasn’t even taken a bout since defeating Brian Rose for the title. On July 29, Andrade’s promoters Star Boxing and Banner Promotions filed a $20 million lawsuit against rival promoter Roc Nation alleging that Roc Nation tampered with their exclusive promotional agreement with Andrade.

The lawsuit alleges that on September 23, 2014, Roc Nation brought the Andrade Team to their Manhattan corporate headquarters for a meeting and subsequently offered Andrade $550,000 if Andrade would refuse a fight against Jermell Charlo. This bout was being negotiated by Star Boxing and Banner Promotions along with Showtime meaning that Roc Nation would of overstepped their bounds. It also states that Roc Nation was trying to work to get Andrade to HBO as Roc Nation allegedly told Andrade they would buy him out of his contract. Andrade rejected the Charlo fight, but was never paid the $550,000 and his contract was never bought out.

The lawsuit also alleges “The actions of Roc Nation and Fried were intentional, malicious, without justification and not done for legitimate, competitive business reasons, as Andrade was under exclusive contract with Star Boxing and Banner Promotions, and Roc Nation had no authority to be negotiating with Andrade”. The suit furthers that without the actions of Roc Nation Andrade would have a four fight deal on Showtime. This comes on the heels of Stephen Edwards, junior middleweight Julian Williams trainer, stating this weekend that Andrade has been blackballed from Premier Boxing Champions, because of this event.
