Cherry barely edges Rhodes, Douglas gets stoppage on FS1 card
That didn’t go as planned Ender Cherry (34-8-2 19KOs) got a wide decision over Lydell Rhodes (24-1 11KOs) , who recently lost a close decision to IBF super featherweight champion Jose Pedraza on Showtime that most felt Cherry won. Rhodes outboxed Cherry in a fight that was sloppy and clinch heavy fight that saw both men just look flat and awkward. The feeling was that Rhodes slightly edged the fight, but people were relatively uninterested in the bout so when Cherry edged it was a surprise. The judges scored the bout 98-92, 97-93, 97-93 all for Cherry.
Super featherweight Omar “Super O” Douglas (17-0, 12 KOs) scored an eighth round KO over Alexei Collado (19-2, 17 KOs) to up the PBC’s telecast on FS!. Douglas was tested by Collado, who was able to avoid some of Douglas’ power in the mid-rounds, but faded from constant body shots. Collado took a knee in the eighth round and was unable to get up.
In the television swing bout, super bantamweight Gary Antonio Russell (7-0, 5 KOs), brother of WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell, picked up a decisive victory over Rudolph Hedge (10-4-3, 4 KOs). Scores were 60-54, 59-55, 59-55.
