Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Predictions Round One!

Everyone is in fight mode as the biggest fight of our era is upon us. To help celebrate, I’ve began reaching out to anyone and everyone in the Boxing community to get their predictions on this weekend’s super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr (48-0, 26 KOs)  and Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs). Here is a few of the responses I got:

Zab “Super” Judah (42-9, 29 KOs), former undisputed Welterweight Champion: “48-0, Money May All Day!!!”

Ronald Cruz (20-5, 15 KOs), Welterweight Prospect: “I’ll start by saying that a few years ago when Pacquiao ran through De La Hoya, Hatton & Cotto, I thought he’d be the guy who would beat Floyd. Now that both fighters have slowed down a little, my thoughts have changed. I think Pac has the type of style to give anyone a tough fight but due to the type of concussion he received in the Marquez KO, I don’t think Pac can take a good solid punch anymore. The proof is in the Bradley rematch when Bradley – who is not a big puncher – hurt Pac with an over hand right that had him stunned. A lot of people don’t know that Pac was knocked out early in his career also. Marquez dropped and hurt Pac in the 1st knockdown of their last fight and an over hand right put him to sleep. Floyd will use those same weapons to hurt Pac. After a competitive first half of the fight, I got Floyd starting to hurt Pac with straight rights and over hand rights, set up by jabs, feints, and left hooks to stop him in the 9th.”

Randall Bailey (44-8, 37 KOs), former Welterweight Champion: “I don’t have a pick. Too close to judge”

Donald Griffin (2-0, 1 KO), Welterweight Prospect: “Mayweather – unanimous decision.”

Felipe Gomez, Trainer/Manager: “Mayweather by split decision. I can see both guys suffering a knockdown at some point in the fight.”

Frank Galarza (17-0, 11 KOs), Super Welterweight Prospect: “I believe if Pac doesn’t take a risk, he is going to lose the fight. Mayweather needs to win big, and unanimously on the cards, it can not look close. If so Mayweather leaves undefeated, but I feel like it’s going to be a draw.”

Johnny Garcia (19-3-1, 11 KOs), Jr Welterweight Prospect: “I’m going with Mayweather for the win over an exciting 12 round decision. Pacquiao tries, but Mayweather’s defense is too good. Floyd pot shots him clean but loses some rounds because Pacquiao is too busy. Close fight, but Floyd wins.”

Erickson Lubin (10-0, 7 KOs), Super Welterweight Prospect: “I got Mayweather winning. I feel like Pac is gonna come strong for the first couple of rounds, but by the 7th round or so he will get careless and open up and Mayweather will land something big and possibly knock him out.”

Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 KOs), former Heavyweight Champion: “Mayweather, late KO around 8 or 10.”

Javier “Pelos” Garcia (10-3-2, 9 KOs), Lightweight Prospect: “This is a hard one, but I got Mayweather winning. I think Mayweather is going to outclass Pacquiao. He’s going to be too smart and fast for him. I think Pacquiao is going to go 100 throughout the whole fight, he won’t lose faith. The fight would’ve been different 5/6 years ago. Now, their pace might change and slow down. It’s two older, WISE and EXPERIENCED badasses.”
