Amir Mansour and Joey Dawejko not just were fighting for the heavyweight title of Pennsylvania, but it was also a bout about pride. Both Mansour and Dawejko are Philly fighters as a much touted grudge match had engulfed the internet leading up to the ESPN2 bout on Friday night at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The first round saw both heavyweights fight a slow pace as Mansour mostly pressured Mansour, but some might argue the effectiveness as Dawejko seemed content to pick his shots. The second round saw a clash of heads create a cut on Mansour under his right eye as blood began to pour with in seconds. The following round saw Mansour land a counter that drew blood from Dawejko.

The fourth round saw the most action of the fight as Dawejko wobbled Mansour with a straight left that nearly had Mansour fall to the canvas.  Going into the seventh round, the vibe on press row was essentially the fight was anyone’s to be had as most had it three rounds a piece for both fighters. It appeared heading into those later rounds, the heavy set stature of Dawejko may have not served him as he looked to be the worse for wear in conditioning terms as Mansour simply plodded forward, but Dawejko was just unable to throw his hands enough to do anything to score points.

After nearly getting countered by a hard shot from Dawejko, Mansour began to fight off his jab as he essentially won the last few rounds by volume. Mansour kept Dawejko pinned against the ropes and unable to get with inside on Mansour.

The final cards were 96-94, 98-92, and 97-93, giving Mansour the unanimous decision win.
