Alex Martin decisions Gomez in one sided win on Fox Sports 1

Tonight on Fox Sports 1, PBC hosted another show hosted at the Bethlehem Sands Casino. The casino has become a hot spot for small, but exciting boxing cards in recent years and this one was no different.

In the opening bout of the televised portion of the card, Alex Martin (11-0, 5 KO’s) took on Rosemburg Gomez (17-4-1, 13 KO’s) in an 8 round welterweight bout. Interesting fact about Gomez, he only has 3 fingers on his right hand. It made for an interesting fight to see exactly how he carried that throughout the fight.

Martin took control early, picking his shots and being the better boxer mentally. Gomez began to try and walk Martin down in the 3rd but Martin still kept a tight defense to avoid any big punches from Gomez.

Gomez kept his game the first 3 rounds, consistently walking forward and taking Martin’s best shots while throwing his own haymakers. In the 4th, nearing the end of the round, Martin tagged Gomez with a solid left cross that looked like it hurt Gomez though he may have been caught off balance. Martin let his hands go but Gomez survived the round.

By the late rounds, Gomez’ face was badly bruised from the punishment Martin was enduring. Gomez, who showed he was here to fight by fighting on, came back aggressive in the 7th. He began to back Martin up during some moments and began to land more shots that usual that definitely caught Martin’s attention.

Martin, who possibly took the 7th round off, knowing he was winning, finished the fight strong attacking the body a lot more, slowing Gomez down. Fatigue began to show as Gomez began to hold a lot more in the final round but managed to pull through the fight as Martin won an easy unanimous decision with scores of 87-72, 79-73 x 2.
