Joebert Alvarez knocks out Jonathan Gonzalez
Filipino boxer Joebert “Little Pacman” Alvarez who trains out of Donaire Sr. Boxing in Oakland, CA with head coach Nonito Donaire Sr., stopped Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez in 6 rounds in the Gonzalez’s hometown at the Coliseo Mario ‘Quijote’ Morales in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
Alvarez (15-1-1, 7 knockouts) of General Santos City, Philippines, whose lone career loss is a heavily disputed close decision to Juan Francisco Estrada. Alvarez knocked Gonzalez (18-2-1, 12 KOs) down in round two before stopping him with an accumulation of shots in the sixth round.
Alvarez won the vacant WBO NABO and WBC FECARBOX flyweight titles, regional belts which could position Alvarez means that he should get a world ranking with in the top ten of a governing body which would put him in line for Roman Gonzalez or a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada.
Donaire Sr told Ryan Songalia Alvarez’s promoter All Star Boxing has plans of putting Alvarez on a fight card on July 9.
