Michael Hunter Makes Team Combat League Debut Tonight
Team Combat League (TCL) announced earlier this week that Michael “The Bounty” Hunter has signed with their organization and will make his debut tonight. To watch it tonight you can click here
The heavyweight contender has been added to Dewey Cooper’s Team, the Las Vegas Hustle. Hunter is set to face off against two formidable opponents in the upcoming bouts, Hasim Rahman Jr. and Norman Neely of the D.C. Destroyers.
“I train with these guys most of the time, at the UFC Gym, with [many of the coaches from Team Combat League],” stated Hunter as did final media rounds before fighting tonight. “Dewey [Cooper] reached out to me at the UFC Gym, he told me he’d have a great opportunity for [me], and I have always had tremendous respect for Dewey. I have known him before he was a real coach. So, he has always been looking out for me, and what is best for me.”
The bout which starts at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST, will take place, tonight, Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Mohegan Sun Expo Center in Connecticut.
“Like I said, they want the best to fight the best,” said Hunter. “Me fighting my brother [close friend, Hasim Rahman Jr], is going to be a little difficult when it comes to [the mental aspect], but I got to do my job, and do what I came here to do is get the [win] and make sure my team gets the victory.”
For those unaware of the format of Team Combat League it is a series of one-round fights between two teams from different cities. Each bout is scored and that will determine a winner. At some point they have a half-time show, and the fighter resume after a break.
“It’s different, it is cool, it is [nice to have team element] with my fellow fighters,” said Hunter on the team-based format. “Normally, everybody is by themselves, and [boxing] is such an individual sport. To be a team, and we are all vibing together, is a different feel…I think that is a good thing for the fighters [in general].”
