WBC silver bantamweight champion Luis Nery (30-0 24KOs) defeated former world champion Juan Carlos Payano (21-3 9KOs) in the first bout of the FOX pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fighters split the first two rounds with Nery’s aggression edging the first and Payano’s slick skills edging the second, through four rounds the bout was even, as Nery’s aggression was stimmed by Payano’s ability. The fight came down to the high punch output of Payano as opposed to the sheer aggressiveness of Nery.

Nery dropped Payano with a body shot in the ninth as a left hook to the body was all Payano could handle as he was unable to continue. The time of the stoppage was 1:43.
