Miguel Marriaga stops Guy Robb for NABO title
In a somber night for Northern California boxing, our beloved featherweight fighter from Sacramento, CA, Guy Robb (18-2 8KOs) was stopped by Miguel Marriaga (24-1 20KOs) in the sixth round in the main event of Saturday night’s fight card in Fallon, Nevada at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. Robb won the first two rounds and maybe even the third, but Marriaga seemed to figure out his timing and in the sixth timed Robb coming in without a jab landing a hard right hand that Robb couldn’t get up from.
Marriaga is now the NABO featherweight title holder and ranked third by the WBO.
In the co-main event, lightweight Jose Felix Jr. (34-1-1, 26 KOs) scored a decisive sixth round TKO over veteran tough guy “Red Hot” RobertJos Frankel (34-17-1, 7 KOs).
Featherweight prospect Jose ‘El Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (5-0-1, 2 KOs), and cousin of Roman Gonzalez, outpointed Gelacio Cruz (2-4-2, 1 KO) in a four-round fight. Scores were 40-36, the fans were not very into this bout.
In other bouts, Reno, Nevada’s Santos Vasquez fought to a draw with Basyzbek Baratov in a light flyweight 4 round bout, Sacramento, CA’s Blake McKernan (4-0 3KOs) earned a technical knockout of Kendrick Holloway (0-1-1), 18 year-old Sacramento prospect Pedro Moreno (4-0 3KOs) picked up a decision win over Rafael Vazquez and Reno, NV’s Alec McGee earned a hard fought decision over Sergio Lopez.
