Yves Ulysse avenges lone loss, Franco gets split over Negrete
Super lightweight contender Yves Ulysse Jr. (18-1, 9 KOs) avenged his only career loss with a hard-fought ten round unanimous decision over Steve Claggett (27-6-2, 17 KOs) to claim the WBA Gold championship in an all-Canadian clash on Thursday night at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
The bout was fought on the inside for the most part, with both fighters doing well.
The judges scored it 96-94, 97-93, 97-93. Claggett won the prior bout by a split decision in December 2017.
In a rematch of a fight of the year contender in 2018, bantamweight Joshua “The Professor” Franco (15-1-1, 7 KOs) picked up a hard-fought split decision Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete (18-2-1, 7 KOs) in a ten round bout. The bout was all action.
The scores were 97-93 and 96-94 for Franco and 98-92 Negrete. With the win, Franco is now the NABF and WBA International bantamweight champion.
After ten rounds, it was Franco winning by ten round split decision by scores of 97-93, 96-94 on two cards. Negrete was up 98-92 on the third card. Franco claimed the NABF and WBA International bantamweight titles.
2012 U.S. women’s Olympian Marlen Esparza won an eight-round decision over Jhosep Vizcaino to win the vacant women’s WBO NABO flyweight title.
Welterweight Alexis “Lex” Rocha (13-0, 8 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision against Nacho Beristain trained fighter Shoki Sakai (23-10-2, 13 KOs).
Anthony Reyes picked up a six-round decision over tough veteran Roberto Pucheta.
Super lightweight Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (24-2, 13 KOs) scored a second round KO over Yardley Armenta Cruz (25-14, 15 KOs).
