N’Dam defeats Murata for WBA title, plus results from Japan
Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (34-2, 21 KOs) picked up a heavily scrutinized win for the vacant WBA middleweight belt as as he picked up a split decision win over 2012 Olympic gold medalist Ryota Murata (12-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.
The fight which was close and saw Murata drop N’Dam in the fourth round, but elusive movement stymied N’Dam’s success.
The judges scored the fight 117-110 Murata, 115-112 for N’Dam and 115-112 N’Dam.
On the undercard Japanese Daigo Higa (13-0, 13 KOs) won the WBC flyweight belt with a six round TKO victory over Juan Hernandez (36-4, 26 KOs). Shiro Ken won WBC light-flyweight belt as he engaged in a fire fight with Ganigan Lopez picking up a majority decision with the scores being 115-113, 115-113 and 114-114. WBO junior flyweight champ Kosei Tanaka (9-0, 5 KOs) defended his title against mandatory challenger Angel Acosta (16-1, 16 KOs) as he picked an impressive and entertaining unanimous decision with the scores being 117-110 twice, 116-111.
