U.S. Olympic Update: Antonio Vargas advances, preview of tomorrow

In a very limited day of action flyweight Antonio Vargas won his bout against Juliao Henriques Neto of Brazil. Vargas shut-out the hometown fighter, who was 14 years older then the soon to be 20 year-old Vargas.

Vargas returns to the ring at 7:45am PST against Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan, which also will take place on his 20th birthday.

Vargas also has drawn the toughest route to gold with his bracket as he faces a who’s who of talent in the flyweight division.

Tomorrow heavily touted, bantamweight Shakur Stevenson will have his first bout of the tournament against Robenílson Vieira de Jesus of Brazil at 7:30AM PST. Meanwhile, light welterweight Gary Antuanne Russell will face Wuttichai Masuk of Thailand at 8:45AM PST. Both bouts will be in the round of 16.
