The Nevada State Athletic Commission is not playing around with performance enhancing drugs in combat sports as it added a “no tolerance” policy against fighters who test positive for banned substances. First time offenders will be suspended for 3 years with a large fine, a second offense will receive a four year ban and third offense will result in a lifetime ban. The fine are from 50% to 100% of the fighter’s purse and will be decided upon at a hearing due to the severity of the offense.

The use of marijuana, diuretics and other weight cutting supplements or recreational drugs will offer up a suspension of 18 months to two year suspensions with a fine of 30-40% of the fighter’s purse.

The incorporation of this policy comes after an over usage of testosterone replacement therapy, a banned substance, that was being used as a loop hole by many fighters in mixed martial arts that lead to Nevada banning the treatment last year.

This standard will not be upheld by other commissions , but the NSAC is viewed as the industry leader in combat sports and we may assume some commissions will follow
