Team Golovkin pushing for David Lemieux fight
WBA “super” middleweight champion WBC interim middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin and his team are pushing for a title fight against IBF middleweight champion, David Lemieux. The reason being both fighters have little options at the current moment, although Golden Boy Promotions, Lemieux’s promoter, has stated that they’d like to see Lemieux face his mandatory prior to a Golovkin fight. The IBF number one contender will be determined later this year between Eamonn O’Kane vs. Tureano Johnson.
Though De La Hoya seems hopeful the bout could be made, De La Hoya also was non-committal in stating he wants to talk with Golden Boy matchmaker, Eric Gomez, about the idea of such a match-up. Though both sides remain optimistic one thing is for sure, the purses to create the bout will almost surely make this bout a pay-per-view attraction as the thing that will make the newly crowned champ, Lemieux, take on such a challenger, would be money and lots of it. So would you pay for Golovkin-Lemieux?
