Ashley Theophane “Floyd says he wants me to fight Broner next.”

Being that he has been in the sport professionally since 2003, Ashley Theophane still sees his name being thrown around for big fights. Theophane has won his last 6 bouts with 3 significant names between the three. He is coming off a unanimous decision win against Steve Upsher. You might have heard the name before as Upsher squared off against Mayweather opponent, Andre Berto almost a year ago, losing to him as well. Theophane beat Upsher with ease and is now looking to blossom once again in the sport.
“It was a great fight, it was entertaining.” Says Upsher, who also noted he sparred with Mayweather and former Cuban superstar, Yuriorkis Gamboa in preparation for the fight. “I got to spar with Floyd Mayweather and Gamboa. It just felt great going in there and I performed great as well.”
The last time we might have seen Theophane on TV was when he took on Pablo Cesar Cano back in 2013 on the Mayweather-Canelo undercard. For this fight, Theophane did something he isn’t used to, he fought at 12:30 PDT early in the day. He says he put his mind into thinking It was like sparring.
“I put in my mind that it was like sparring because it was so early. Like, I had to be here at 10 a.m., I fought at 12:30 p.m. and I mean I got my 39th win. It’s all good now it’s about moving on to the next one.”
Now that’s where things get very interesting for Ashley Theophane. The 35 year old vet mentioned that Floyd Mayweather wanted his next fight to be against 3 division world champion, Adrien Broner. Broner, as of now is set to take on Khabib Allakhverdiev on October 3rd for a world title. Should Broner get past Khabib, Theophane could very well be next line. The close relationship Broner has with Mayweather could make the fight very possible.
This would also give Theophane his very first title shot. When asked why he should be next for Broner, Theophane had this to say.
“Because I can beat him! Ha-ha and because that’s what Floyd Mayweather wants and what he says he wants to happen is going to happen. I had to go get my win, now Adrien has to get his and we’ll be boxing by the new year.”
