Baby Bull, Mike Alvarado get stoppage wins in Texas
Lightweight Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (41-4, 20 KOs) scored a hard fought ninth round KO over Fernando Garcia (30-8-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at The Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas. In a fight in which space was not respected it saw Garcia finally cave to the non-stop pressure of Diaz in the ninth round. The time of the stoppage was 2:44.
“Mile High” Mike Alvarado (35-4, 24 KOs) bounced back from his loss to Brandon Rios over a year ago with a third round destruction of Saul “Golden” Corral (19-7, 10 KOs). Alvarado like the main event took a bit more punishment than one might have hoped before landing his right hand in the third that laid Corral out cold.
In undercard action, 2012 Olympic middleweight silver medalist Esquiva Falcao (13-0, 10 KOs) stopped Joe McCreedy (15-10-2, 6 KOs) in round five. The son of Raul Marquez, Arturo Marquez made his pro debut at 19 years-old by earning a second round stoppage over Justin Henderson. Junior lightweight Jesse Garcia got off the canvas in the first round to stop Christopher Turton in the second round. Lightweight Abel Mendoza outpoined Juan Muniz in the opener.
